In this part (click to watch the video portion) of his presentation, Sean McNamara discusses the practice of "labeling" which is common to many traditions of meditation. But in order to boost the efficacy of this technique, he recommends getting to know your own style of trauma reactivity. Either by yourself or with the help of a therapist, you can find out what your habitual style of responding to stressful situations is, and find out how it's rooted in earlier events of your life. Knowing your own trauma patterns makes it a lot easier to identify them while they're playing out in your brain so that you can have a choice in whether or not to act them out physically or verbally.
