Is spoon bending real? Is it easy to learn how to do spoon bending? How about for beginners? On October 27, 2019, Sean McNamara led a Zoom program for the IONS Portland community group to discuss psychokinesis (PK), also known as mind over matter. Spoon bending is controversial because magicians can do artificial spoon bending as an optical illusion as part of a stage act. Yet authentic, psychic spoon bending is quite a different feat. In this video (click the image above or here), Sean begins with a lecture and Q&A session about spoon bending, then leads the whole group through the process, and as you'll see, most people in the group had great success bending their fork or spoon. You can follow along at home, just grab a spoon from the drawer and give it a try!
In the main presentation, the conversation goes deeper than "how can a person bend metal with their mind?". This is about the idea that consciousness is not the same thing as the physical brain, and it may even be rooted in the fabric of reality. Because of that, the ancient spiritual idea that we are all interconnected with each other and with our physical world begins to make sense. Of course, this would be a difficult world to live in if everything changed shape or moved suddenly according to our thoughts and mood swings.
Perhaps the function of our physical brain is to serve as filter or control valve so that our consciousness is restricted in such a way that we can survive and learn from having a physical body and a life with natural boundaries and restrictions. We might then consider our physical limitations a blessing or at least a unique opportunity for learning-by-experience. Themes like these touch on the intersection of science and spirituality.
As a longtime meditator and consciousness explorer, Sean has experienced the capacity of intention and energy inside and outside the human body. He has experienced (and teaches) out of body experiences, lucid dreaming, telekinesis, meditation and remote viewing. His view is that paranormal or parapsychological (psi) phenomena such as psychokinesis (spoon bending) can open up our view about reality and this world, and help us realize our connectedness to each other.
This, he believes, can serve to increase empathy, love, patience and many other positive attributes which can be hard to find in today's stressed-out world.
It can also help us open up to an even larger perspective about this universe. As you'll watch in the video, the idea of extraterrestrial life and UFOs naturally folds into the conversation. More and more people are having experiences of these types, and contact can often stimulate increased psychic abilities for the experiencer.
This is not the first, nor will it be the last conversation that interweaves the fields of consciousness, spirituality, quantum physics, UFOs and psychic abilities. By watching the program, you are invited to join that conversation.

Video #2
On July 16, 2020, Sean did a live class on spoon bending on "New Thinking Allowed" with Jeffrey Mishlove. The video recording begins with an interview period, followed by instructions for viewers to follow along with at home.
